Scattered showers and thunderstorms on the way
What a weekend we had this past weekend! High temperatures on Saturday climbed into the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s across the state of Minnesota. This made it feel a bit like fall, but it was very pleasant to get out and enjoy our late summer weather. On Sunday, we saw again plenty of sunshine with highs generally in the lower 70s. However, portions of northwestern Minnesota climbed into the upper 70s and lower 80s as a warmfront pushed into the state. We did see those upper 70s and lower 80s move in across much of the rest of the region on Monday. Sunshine was found throughout the area which made for a great day if anyone decided to make it into a three-day weekend! A change will come our way by Thursday and into the start of the weekend as a cold-front will arrive. We could see some showers and thunderstorms for Thursday. Some lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms could stick around through Saturday.

Autumn Experience Series: Sam’s Pumpkin Patch
Jessica Stölen-Jacobson With the weather beginning to shift to a more autumn-like feel, and hints of leaves changing color more each day, local area residents may be looking for ways to experience all the season has to offer in the local area. One opportunity to celebrate the season exists just outside Montevideo, a couple of miles off Highway 212.

Live Well, Age Wisely:
Of all the headlines published when the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 was signed into law by President Biden on August 6th, what made me most curious was what specifically this would mean for Medicare beneficiaries and their pocketbooks. AARP is a non-partisan organization which advocates for lower prescription drug costs so I knew they would have the details I was looking for. Much of what I will share comes from articles on the Advocacy section of their website which is aarp.org. Extra Help is the name of the federal program that helps pay for the prescription drug co-pays and Part D plan premiums. The income eligibility limit to qualify for this program has increased from 135 percent of the federal poverty level ($18,347 for an individual in 2022) to 150 percent ($20,385 for an individual in 2022). If this is a program you explored in the past but had income that was a little too high, let’s take another look to see if now you qualify. I’d be happy to help you complete an application. One savings that everyone will see is that Part D premiums will not be allowed to increase more than 6 percent a year through 2029.

Last week my son was able to take leave (basically vacation time in the military) and travel from Fort Drum to his hometown to spend some time with family. After a 10-month deployment to the Middle East, he had a lot of photos and stories about camels and dust storms to share.
Cooler weather on the way for the weekend
The Labor Day Weekend is behind us now, and things are back to “normal” as the kids headed back to school this week, and for many of us, a more typical routine is with us once again. We had a nice weekend to close out the summer season. Temperatures were very pleasant on Saturday. We had sunshine with highs generally in the lower 70s for much of the state of Minnesota. Temperatures did warm-up a bit on Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

What’s in a Name? Due to the overwhelming response (glad you liked it, Mom) to a recent column about nautical terminology, this is a kind of follow- up. Thus, I give you boat names.
