Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s LSS Meals and Meals on Wheels receives Community Impact Grant
The Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s LSS Meals and Meals on Wheels program has been granted $10,000 by the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) as a community impact grant. This funding will assist in providing meals for low-income seniors who are unable to contribute financially. This initiative is in line with UWSWMN’s Healthy Communities focus area.
New staff changes at Lakeview
At the September 15 Lakeview School Board Meeting, the following administrative reports were made, including several staff changes. Lakeview Elementary Principal Corey talked about hiring new staff.

During this flu season, flu shots for St. Cloud VA Veterans are available at most scheduled VA appointments, at convenient walk-thru and drive-thru flu shot clinics, and through the VA Community Care Network.

Homecoming week begins at Lakeview
Homecoming 2025 activities began at Lakeview Schools last week including the annual Powder Puff Football game. The seniors took home the win, and are pictured singing the school song after their victory.

Panelists share visions for abundant rural futures at local event
Last week, a panel discussion titled “From Seed to Steward: Shaping Abundant Rural Futures” was held as a part of the Rural Assembly Everywhere watch party at The Yes! House. Three rural leaders shared visions of thriving communities, resilient ecosystems and the importance of storytelling in shaping tomorrow’s policies. The event was moderated by Robin Moore of the Land Stewardship Project.

Groundbreaking for new water treatment plant near Boyd
A groundbreaking was held on September 2nd at Lincoln-Pipestone Rural Water System’s (LPRW) site for a new lime-softening water treatment plant located 1.5 miles west of the City of Boyd, MN. This 1.8 million gallon per day (MGD) facility is part of a larger $43,273,000 capital improvement project that includes source development, treatment, transmission pipeline and other systemwide improvements. The LPRW Board of Commissioners has awarded a $24,210,500 contract to Gridor Construction, Inc of Buffalo, MN for construction of its water treatment plant; and a $4,700,000 contract to Winter Contracting, LLC of Brookings, SD for construction of 18 miles of raw and finished water transmission lines.

18th annual Heart of the Prairie Run/Walk held
The eighteenth annual Heart of the Prairie Run/Walk was held on September 13th as part of Belview’s Old Sod Day. The twenty-four entrants were blessed with a beautiful fall morning to participate in either the 2k, 5k or 8k event. Particpants were from Minnesota and South Dakota. Medals were awarded to the top three men and women winners in the 5k and 8k (there were no women in the 8k). The top three in the 2k were also given medals.
