Signs will be replaced on several southwest MN highways this spring
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is replacing signs this spring along several state highways in southwest Minnesota. MnDOT replaces traffic signs on a 15-year cycle to maximize efficiency. District 8 in southwest Minnesota has 32,000 signs and approximately 2,100 signs are replaced each year.
Volunteer Water Monitors celebrate 50 years, more needed to help state track water quality across SW MN
As snow melts across Minnesota, it’s time for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to kick off its popular program that relies on Minnesotans to monitor our 12,000+ lakes and 92,000+ miles of streams: the Volunteer Water Monitoring Program.
Renew watercraft registration early
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources encourages boat owners to renew expired watercraft registrations before this year’s boating season. Boater owners are encouraged to renew registrations online (mndnr.gov/licenses/ online-sales.html) or at a local deputy registrar’s office rather than by mail.

Vegetable Cheese Casserole 4 cups cooked asparagus 2 cups cooked ham 1 and 1/2 cups milk 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup grated cheese Buttered bread crumbs Place asparagus and ham into a buttered dish.
Vicki’s Camp N Country Jam announces complete lineup for 2023
Vicki’s Camp N Country Jam is a “Smaller Intimate 3-day Festival” that hosts national & regional country music artists at the country setting “in the com field”, near Redwood Falls, MN. Platinum-selling recording artist and ACM award-winning singer/ songwriter, Chris Janson, along with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, who trades on a mix of reimagined classics and newer works, were announced as headliners for the second annual festival being held on Friday and Saturday, July 7-8, 2023.
Minnesota fishing facts – season opener May 13th
• The fishing opener refers to the start of fishing for walleye, northern pike, bass, and trout in lakes on inland waters of Minnesota. Seasons for some other species, including sunfish, crappie and channel catfish, are open all year. Seasons also vary on Minnesota waters that border other states or Canadian provinces. Muskellunge season opens on Saturday, June 3.

MnDOT conducting aerial photography work in Southwest Minnesota
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will conduct aerial mapping of several locations in southwest Minnesota this spring. The mapping will create a record of existing infrastructure and landscape along, and adjacent to, MnDOT right of way for transportation planning and highway design. This work will be conducted after the snow has melted and before trees leaf out.

One week ago, we were enjoying temperatures in the 60s and 70s across much of the state. Parts of Minnesota were even in the 80s and lower 90s across the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.
