Crowd gathers for information meeting about potential transfer of land
Last Wednesday evening, a meeting was held at Minnesota West Community & Technical College in Granite Falls hosted by State Representative Chris Swedzinski and Senator Gary Dahms. The two called the meeting with a panel mostly of people involved directly with the potential transfer of land from the state of Minnesota to the Upper Sioux Community. In addition, Dave Smiglewski of the Friends of Upper Sioux State Park and Yellow Medicine County Commissioner John Berends were invited to be and attended as members of the panel.
Echo Lions Club plans new activities to raise funds for park updates
The Echo Lions Club, established in 1963 currenly has eleven members that work together to host a number of opportunities for the community to come together for a good time. Most recently, the group has hosted events such as the Santa Days event prior to Christmas that included a visit from Santa and free turkey/ ham BINGO, a winter BINGO event, and the annual Echo Days community festival held the third weekend in August.

Lakeview Preschool presents Sky Full of Stars
Last Monday, the Lakeview Preschool held a concert with the theme “Sky Full of Stars”. The songs “Sun, Moon and Stars” and “Dyna- mite" were performed by Mrs. Foy's class, the songs "Goldfish" and "Shake it Ou" were performed by Mrs. Schmidt's Class, "Let's Go Crazy" and "Break Free" were performed by Mrs. Evans' class, and “I got a Feeling” and “Just Sing” were performed by Mrs. Voss’ class.

Lakeview 7th graders take part in Industrial Revolution Shark Tank program
an Industrial Revolution Shark Tank project. Based on the popular TV Show, groups of students picked an important invention from the Industrial Revolution time period to research. From that research the students wrote a short pitch that they would present to potential investors or “Sharks”.
Fine Arts celebration runs March 28-May 5 at SMSU
turns March 28 through May 5. The celebration features creative works from the Fine Arts and Communication Department and the Creative Writing Program.
Lyon County Board OKs CUP for gravel pit
Tracy Area Headlight Herald Despite some opposition, the Lyon County Board on April 4 approved a Conditional Use Permit to allow Action Rocks, LLC to mine and process sand and gravel on a 15.62-acre tract zoned Agricutlure in Section 14, Township 110 in Coon Creek Township for use on County projects.


Cottonwood American Legion recognized for 100% membership
American Legion District 7 Commander Karen Welander and District Finance Ov cer Chip Manson attended the Cottonwood American Legion Post 503 monthly meeting on April 6, 2023. These District 7 Ovcers at tended tonight to recognize and present to the post their 100% Membership Club Flag Banner. This is the first 100% in the past four years. The euorts of Commander Alm and the Cottonwood Post are greatly appreciat- ed by the District, Dept of Minnesota and the National American Legion Ovce. The Cot - tonwood American Legion meets on the first Thursdays of the month at the community center and have a meal at 6:30 followed by the meeting at 7 pm.
