New historic marker in Granite Falls honors Nellie Volstead
taking place in the early 1900s, Volstead’s wife Nellie was working on the Women’s Suffrage Movement. “The prohibition Many in the local area have heard about Andrew Volstead and his work in the prohibition, but at the same time as that work was women and the suffrage movement women were a lot of times the same group of women,” says Granite Falls Historical Society Board Member Mary Gillespie.

Ancient Vikings: No helm horns, few “weapons”
The Viking Age came to ECHO Charter School last Tuesday when Dennis Rusinco of The Viking Age Club, Lodge 517, based in Minneapolis, put on an exhibit. “Viking helms never had horns, except for ceremonial events,” Rusinco said.

Mediacom offers scholarships to H.S. seniors; online applications now available
Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school seniors who plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 22nd consecutive year and Mediacom’s investment will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors.
