Director of Aging Well, Prairie 5 Community Action Council I attended a presentation on Scams and Fraud given by the Director of Commerce for the state, Marty Flesichhacker. He shared that while it used to be older adults that were more likely to be targeted, these days it’s actually younger people who are scammed more frequently.

Veterans Day program features WWII Navy Ace Donald M McPherson
Last Friday, a Veterans Day Program was held at the Fagen Fighters World War II Museum. YME Superintendent Rich Schneider gave the welcome, and the guest speaker was Donald M McPherson, World War II Navy Ace, the YME band and choir performed and the Advancement of the Colors was done by Boy Scout Troop #269, American Legion Post 204 (Echo), and Anderson-Bestland Post 127 (Hanley Falls). Taps was performed by Aiden Martin, and student essays were read by Kindal Meyer and Delaney Myers. After the program, a reception line was formed for guests to greet Veterans, and McPherson signed copies of his recently published book for sale in the museum’s gift shop.

Netflix documentary on anniversary of missing man’s case brings new attention 20 years later
At the time of Josh Guimond’s disappearance, twenty years ago in November, the community of Belview was rallied to ouer support to Guimond’s family members that lived there. Now, twenty years to the date of his disappearance, a new episode on Netflix of Unsolved Mysteries is bringing new attention to the case of the still missing Minnesotan man.

Minnesota farmer brings Veterans and cattle producers together
Dawn Breitkreutz grew up in a small town in Minnesota, struggled through high school and wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life. Her mom passed away when she was 15 and she felt lost and in need of direction. A military recruiter visited Dawn’s high school, the opportunity to serve sounded interesting, and she was ou to basic training in San Antonio, Texas. “Joining the Air Force was the best decision at that time in my life,” said Dawn. “The military was exactly what I needed, and I loved it!” Dawn served 10 years in active duty and the reserves and was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant, serving much of the time overseas in the Philippines as a communications analyst.
Hunting safety begins with personal responsibility
With many hunting seasons underway, and about 400,000 hunters set to converge on the state’s fields and woods for the Nov. 5 firearms deer opener, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters there’s no such thing as a successful hunt if it isn’t safe.
Lakeview celebrates 50th day of school

Gatchell speaks at ECS Veterans Day program
Freelance Journalist Dorian Gatchell served in the US Military, having served his country well and assumes his great great-grandchildren will some day consider him a hero. He told the students at the ECHO Charter School at Thursday’s Veterans Day Program, that he considered so many others to have earned the title of Hero.
Warriors & Walleyes event hosts 241 guests
The Warriors & Walleyes Veteran’s Dinner was held at the Wood Lake Community Center on November 5th. The non-profit organi - zation served 241 people a smoked turkey dinner with all the fixings. Forty-one of those guests were Veterans that enjoyed a free meal. “It’s breathtaking for the ones who donate money because they know how important it is to keep a good thing going,” says Lance Peterson of the Warriors and Walleyes organization. "Cannot wait until next year!” The Veterans Dinner is the largest fundraiser the organization conducts throughout the year which raises funds for activities such as taking Veterans on fishing trips. Anyone wishing to donate can at any time by sending a check made out to the organization to Warriors & Walleyes Outdoors, 250 2nd Ave W, Wood Lake, MN 56297.
Lakeview students celebrate Halloween
Last Monday, the students in the Lakeview Elementary School wore their costumes to school and held a parade around the school to show ou their creative costumes. In the 7th and 8th grade, a Hal - loween story was read with a "campfire".
