Dakota Wicohan, a Native Nonprofit in Southwest Minnesota celebrates 20 years
Eileen O’Keefe Executive Director, Dakota Wicohan Dakota Wicohan is celebrating 20 years of dedicated work in sharing Dakota language and lifeways with youth and families in Southwest Minnesota. A celebration dinner and Kahomni (Round Dance) will be held at Jackpot Junction Casino on Saturday, September 10th.

SWCD releases state of the art public mapping tool
Yellow Medicine Soil & Water Conservation District After several years of partnership and consultation with Yellow Medicine County officials, the Yellow Medicine Soil and Water Conservation District is excited to publicly announce a virtual hub of maps and data with ties to the conservation of natural resources in our area. Simply visiting the map’s website will unlock a large amount and diverse array of GIS mapping at the click of a mouse. This page will show you maps of conservation easements, water resources, and so much more from your desktop or mobile device. The hope is that this gives users all information to better partner with the SWCD office or users customers. All of the information has some connection to the conservation of soil and water resources in Yellow Medicine County.

Is it hard for you to believe that the calendar is already showing mid-September? How in the world is this even possible? It seems like the summer flew by, then Labor Day passed and now we have reached the half way point of the month. It’s unbelievable how quickly time passes! With that said, the Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network (MAMLN) has been busy scurrying around putting the final touches on their upcoming Free Fall Movie Event.

One of the first Meander artists to exhibit this year once again

Hall has been a part of the Meander Art Crawl since its inception in 2004, and was the first featured artist to have his work exhibited on the cover of the brochure and poster.

Ostensoe leaves a legacy with recent passing

Ostensoe, a lifetime resident of southwestern Minnesota, has been involved in music for many years, writing and performing songs about the local area, nature and trains.

Author of “How to Talk Minnesotan” passes
Jessica Stölen-Jacobson Editor js to len-jacobson@cherryroad.com On September 4th, well-known Cottonwood resident Howard Mohr passed away with his family by his side at Prairie Home Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood at the age of 83. Mohr was most known for his work in writing and performing, having spent several years on the radio program A Prairie Home Companion, and authoring a number of books including the popular “How to Talk Minnesotan”.
