Above average temperatures forecasted
We had some severe weather move across Minnesota both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, tornadoes were confirmed in Ramsey County and Dakota County. During the storms, heavy rain fell during the Minnesota State Fair. The concert at the State Fair’s Grand Stand had to be canceled. More severe weather was reported in Minnesota on Sunday where tornado watches and warnings were issued. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes were reported across the state. The severe weather during the Minnesota State Fair over the weekend made me wonder how often we get bad weather that impacts the Great Minnesota Get-Together? Well, back in 2007 damaging winds of 67 mph hit the fairgrounds just ahead of the fair. It damaged some of the vendor buildings and some of the exhibition buildings. Also, back in 1989 golf ball sized hail hit during the fair. Finally, in 1940 severe weather “blew down tents” and damaged equipment on Machinery Hill. Also, rain during the Minnesota State Fair, on average, occurs during the threeday fair run. However, for rain to cancel a show at the Grand Stand, isn’t completely unusual, but no doubt a disappointment for those who wanted to see one of their favorite acts.
