New Granite Falls business to provide BBQ to the community during Coming Home Days
Scott Reisenbigler recently moved to Granite Falls, and with that move, he brought along his business, Scotty Biggs BBQ Company. Reisenbigler has owned a food truck and catering company for three years, but just a couple of weeks ago, traded in his original food truck for an even larger one, featuring a hard-to-miss bright orange finish. This weekend, Reisenbigler will be bringing Scotty Biggs BBQ Company to Cottonwood for the Coming Home Days celebration.

Local area host families needed for foreign exchange students
Lori Sherod, of Odessa, has been advertising heavily through social media in the local area to find host families for foreign exchange students hoping to come to the United States for the 2022-23 school year through the International Student Exchange (ISE) program.
New to Medicare virtual class scheduled for July 12
Learning what to do when you become eligible for Medicare can seem overwhelming. This class is for people who will be new to Medicare and would like to learn about Medicare Parts A, B, C and D. Topics will include a comprehensive introduction to Medicare, including what Medicare covers, supplemental insurance and Part D prescription coverage. During the class, you will learn the Medicare enrollment details, how to get the most from your benefits and how to research your Medicare plan options using the Medicare.gov site.
United Way annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive underway
United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) is collecting new school supplies to help local children start the school year off right. Can you help us Stuff the Bus? School supplies most needed this year are colored pencils (12 count preferred), crayons (24 count preferred), fine or broad tip markers, and scissors. School supply donations can be placed in collection containers that can be found at the following locations through July 29th.

July averages second-highest number of tornadoes in Minnesota
The 4th of July came and went with some scattered showers and thunderstorms found across portions of the state. We never seem to get through a Memorial Day Weekend, or an Independence Day celebration, without the possibility for some showers and thunderstorms.

Local barrel racers take part in charity series at Lee-Mar

New Granite Falls business holds first event at Coming Home Days
Krista Miller, of Granite Falls, will be hosting her first-ever event with her new business, The Blender Co. at Cottonwood’s Coming Home Days. The new beverage truck will be set up on Saturday, July 9th around 8 a.m. at Central Park.

SMSU Agronomy Field Day set for July 13
The fourth annual SMSU Agronomy Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Jon Knochenmus Center for Innovation and SMSU Agronomy Field Trials Farm site, located on the north edge of Marshall.

July opens with four morning planets—Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn—strung out in that order from northeast to south. By month’s end, Saturn will be moving into the southwest and both Saturn and Jupiter start rising before midnight.

Splash pad in Cottonwood?
On Monday, June 20, the new Splash Pad Fundraising Committee flocked around the idea of putting together more summer fun for the Cottonwood area. Present for the meeting were members from the Cottonwood Area Community Foundation and community volunteers joining the committee.
