100th Anniversary project features local cooperatives including Cottonwood Co-op
Jessica Stolen-Jacobson, a journalist and professional photographer, was invited by Scott Tedrick, Editor of the Renville County newspaper, to collaborate with him on creating a project that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Volstead-Capper Act. The Act is the driving force behind the project, with both Stolen-Jacobson and Tedrick eager to create the 100th Anniversary Cooperative celebration project; and, it took Tedrick and Stolen-Jacobson on quite the adventure.
Minnesota West Community & Technical College application deadline
Minnesota West Community & Technical College awarded students of $82,000 in scholarships last year. There are a wide variety of scholarships for new and returning students available through the Minnesota West Foundation and the Minnesota Workforce Development scholarship. Lac qui Parle Mission Sunday to be held July 10
The Chippewa County Historical Society will host the 64th annual Lac qui Parle Mission Sunday on Sunday, July 10, 2022. The day will begin with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. led by Dr. Reverend Clifford Canku, and will feature the Dakota Ascension Choir and the hymn “Lac qui Parle”, which was composed by Joseph Renville and inspired by Jeremiah 10:12-13. This hymn, which has been in the Dakota Odowan since 1846, was translated into English by Philip Frazier, a third generation Dakota pastor in the Congregational church. It is perhaps the most widely known Christian Indian hymn in the United States, a legacy to all people from the Santee Dakota, who still sing it in their native language.

Wellbriety group informs council of plans to open a Recovery Resource Center in Montevideo
Exactly three years ago, Bold North Recovery and Consulting hosted the first Recovery Coach Academy training in Montevideo, with six volunteers learning the CCAR curriculum. The curriculum is a five-day intensive training focused on providing skills needed to guide, mentor, and support anyone looking to enter into or sustain recovery from addiction long-term.
Area fire chiefs testify to need of paging system update
Lyon County Commissioners took a step toward making the entire county safer during its regular board meeting Tuesday. Sheriff Eric Wallen, along with several area fire chiefs, presented to the board their personal experiences with the current paging system.

Kid Frankenstein
The Lakeview School is hosting a summer theater program for the production “Kid Frankenstein”. The story is described as a funny, charming tale about Frankie, a young scientist, and Irving (aka Igor), ), her long suffering friend. Frankie receives a mysterious book called “How I did it” by Doctor Frankenstein, and so begins her quest to create life. She thinks she has put the brain of a recently deceased brilliant monkey into her creature, but has she? The play will be held June 24th at 6:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Auditorium. The production is just one dollar to attend, and made possible by funding from the Lakeview Booster Club. It is directed by Josie Laleman and Illana Peter.
