Wednesday, June 29th: Blue Jay Buddies Daycare in Belview is hosting a traveling story time experience. There will be 6 sessions (attend some or all) at J.K. Pasture Farms. Additional events held Wednesdays at 9 a.m. on July 13, July 27, August 3, August 17.
Ray Fagen Memorial Airshow held
Despite temperatures climbing into the nineties on Saturday, a large crowd gathered for the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum’s annual Ray Fagen Memorial Airshow. This year’s theme, Pride of the Pacific, was in homage to the military planes and vehicles of WWII, and featured the planes not only from the Fagen Fighters museum but from at least three other military plane museums in the United States.
Cooler weather on the way
We have finally broken the extreme heat that we had Sunday into Monday. Of course, the region had Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings into early Tuesday morning. At times it felt like 100 to 110 degrees across the state.
Bodie Croninger Wins Limited Late Model Feature at Fiesta City Speedway
The Limited Late Models made their first appearance at Fiesta City Speedway on Friday night for Fiesta Days. Jason Best took the lead at the start of the Pure Stock feature.
Lakeview boys golf team takes 4th at state championship
The Lakeview boys golf team took fourth place at the state golf championship with a final team score of 346-336 to total 682 points over the two days. The school finished behind Fertile-Beltrami (632), Marshall School Duluth (662) and BBE (680).
News from WRAP: LGBTQ+ and Pride Month
June is National Pride Month and is celebrated to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, formerly known as the Stonewall Riots, in Manhattan, New York. Throughout the 1960s, the police raided establishments rumored to serve members of the LGBTQ+ community, and then on June 28, 1969 police raided the Stonewall Inn, a known “private bottle bar” that LGBTQ+ individuals frequented. Within minutes bar patrons and neighborhood residents began the uprising in response to the police brutality against those that were being arrested. Hundreds of people were involved in the uprising and ensued for the next five days, six days total. New York’s Pride march this year will commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
Pride of the Pacific
On June 18th, the Ray Fagen Memorial Airshow returns to the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum after a hiatus due to the pandemic. Every airshow held at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum has a theme, and Diane Fagen, notes this year’s chosen theme centers around the Navy and is titled the Pride of the Pacific. “The reason we chose that is because of the 80th anniversaries that are coming up,” Fagen says. For example, Monday of this week was the anniversary of D-Day, a day with additional significance to the Fagen family, as Ron Fagen’s father Ray was in the 4th infantry and one of the first wave of soldiers to exit the boat onto Utah Beach in France.

Granite Falls man injured in plane crash
On 6/10/22 at about 7:03 am the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an airplane crash east of the Granite Falls Airport in a field. The reporter said that there was a male party walking by the plane with cuts on his head. The Granite Falls Ambulance and Granite Falls Fire Department were paged to the scene along with area law enforcement. The pilot was treated at the scene and was airlifted by North Memorial Air Care to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. His medical status is unknown at this time.
Steamy temperatures much of the week into weekend
It has been great to get a break from the storms since Memorial Day. However, some showers and thunderstorms did move in late Sunday night into Monday morning across parts of the state.
