SMBSC elects new President and Chief Executive Officer
Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative (SMBSC), a shareholder-owned producer of refined sugar and sugar products, announced today it has elected Paul Fry to be its next President and Chief Executive Officer.

DNR offers advice for dealing with storm damaged trees
Cleanup following a storm can be an overwhelming task for homeowners. If trees have been damaged, knowing which to save and which to remove can enhance people’s safety and the survival of remaining trees, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Former Cottonwood residents work together in effort to save historic building
Two former Cottonwood residents have come together in an effort to save one of the downtown buildings slated for demolition. It came about after former Cottonwood resident Bayli Vandelanotte saw a post about the upcoming demolition on a Facebook group titled Abandoned Minnesota. Vandelanotte says she had heard some rumors prior to seeing the post that confirmed the future of the building.

Local teen participates in Miss Teen USA pageant
After seeing an advertisement for the Minnesota Miss Teen USA pageant on Facebook, Tianna Wright, a Yellow Medicine East High School student, made the decision to compete. In order to prepare for her first pageant, two years ago, Wright reached out to others she knew were involved in pageantry, most specifically indigenous people, to seek advice for competing. Wright found a coach in North Dakota and began her venture into the world of pageants.

Memorial Day storm leaves damage in its wake
In the early hours of Memorial Day morning, the first of multiple storms to move through the area left a trail of broken branches and muddy yards, putting a hindrance on all area Memorial Day programs. The Granite Falls American Legion posted that the Memorial Day program for Granite Falls was postponed due to the storm.
Sawyer Louwagie named to President’s List
Sawyer Louwagie of Cottonwood, Minn., has been named to the President’s List for the Spring 2022 semester. The President’s List recognizes full-time (12+ credits), degree-seeking students who earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Ridgewater College announces spring semester 2022 Dean’s List
Ridgewater College would like to acknowledge those students earning recognition on the Dean’s lists for Fall Semester 2021. In order to be included on the Deans’ list, a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in at least nine credits and meet certain other criteria.
