Wing-Bain in business since 1892
Wing-Bain Funeral Home is the longest continual business serving the community of Granite Falls. Its beginnings can be traced back to 1892 – 1893 when Henry Hamre began his undertaker career. “Since those early years, Wing-Bain Funeral Home (formerly Hamre), has carried on a tradition of compassionate, dignified and professional service to people during their time of need,” says business partner Everett Bain.
Fledgling alumni association meets at ECHO Charter School
In spite of the sparse attendance, a new alumni association was hatched at ECHO Charter School Saturday. The call had gone out over the Echo Facebook Connections page and multiple positive responses had been received in favor of getting together a group of Echo/ECHO graduates that would put together some activities that would attract classmates from across the years.

Minnesota West Community and Technical College announces local graduates
Minnesota West Community & Technical College – Minnesota West will host multiple Commencement Ceremonies for students graduating this year. The Commencement Ceremonies are scheduled as below. All ceremonies will also be live streamed on the Minnesota West facebook page at www.facebook.com/MinnesotaWest.
New Book Bike at the Marshall-Lyon County Library
Through the generous support of the Friends of the Marshall Lyon County Library (MLCL) and matching funds from Modern Woodmen at last summer’s book sale, MLCL welcomed a new addition this week: “Page Turner,” a book bike. Inspired by similar outreach programs in Rochester and other communities, Library staff developed a plan to fund, design, and implement a book bike program for the Marshall area.

LaVoy invited to Minnesota All-State Choir
Congratulations to Grace LaVoy for being invited to participate as a Soprano in the 2022 Minnesota All-State Choir! This is among the highest honors a high school musician can be awarded in our state. Fewer than one in five singers who audition are selected for participation. Students who are selected through the audition process perform with other talented students from across Minnesota in a camp setting, then again in February for a reunion concert. All-State is an intensive musical program for some of the very best musicians in Minnesota’s high schools.
Cottonwood Ambulance Service awarded $62,000 to buy updated equipment
Lyon County Commissioners recently approved a total of $62,000 for the Cottonwood Ambulance Service to purchase updated medical equipment. “It fits right in with what we’re trying to do” with American Rescue Plan Act dollars, Commissioner Rick Anderson was reported saying.

Lakeview hosts Grandparents Day festivities
Last Thursday, 1st and 2nd grade Lakeview students were treated to a special breakfast with their Grandparents or special guests in honor of Grandparents Day.
