Cottonwood Co-op poised for second century of service
Cottonwood Co-op Company’s General Manager Brad Rosa said he had spent untold hours peering through 100 years of meeting minutes to glean information for the company’s 100 year anniversary which occurred in 2021.

Lakeview students take part in Schwan’s Culinary Skills Challenge
Students from Lakeview competed in the Schwan’s Culinary Skills Challenge which features high school students showcasing their artistic and scientific creations through handson competitions and seminars. The event is held at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall, MN on April 5th. Three of Lakeview’s students placed overall: Aleiah Rosenau placed 1st and Megan Schwartz placed 3rd in the cupcake division while Bradlyn Gniffke placed 2nd in the multi-layer cakes. Others participating in the competition was Caitlynn Hedman, Kenadi Walberg, Harley Mendelkow, Madison Smith, Carmen Varpness. Three students competed in the Culinary completion: Colen Moudry, McKenzy Grunewald, Brody Justesen. Students who did not compete were able to meet chefs and try new foods at SMSU. The Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) hosted The Schwan’s Culinary Skills Challenge, which brought together more than 230 students to showcase their culinary expertise for the chance to win a college scholarship. The event was held on Tuesday, April 5, at the RA Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall, Minn.
ECHO staff attends webinars on non-binary individuals, suicide prevention
For last Wednesday’s Quality Compensation training, the teaching staff at ECHO Charter School participated in a webinar on non-binary students and the humane way to integrate them into the classroom. Various members of the United States Department of Education, Lessons from the Field, and support groups such as the Gay Support Association (GSA) demonstrated how to introduce themselves or students in a politically correct manner using personal pronouns of the indicated individuals choosing, such as, “Hi! My Name is Mrs. Isaackson. I identify as she/her.” Then the teacher should go around the classroom asking every student to say their name and preferred gender pronoun.

Lakeview students visit Washington, D.C.
Lakeview had 21 students and 2 teachers travel to Washington, D.C. over the past weekend. During four jam-packed days, the travelers were able to visit several monuments and museums in and around our nation’s capital. Some of the memorials they visited included monuments dedicated to the Marines, the Air Force, WWII, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, the 9/11 Pentagon memorial, and several memorials for American leaders. One highlight was visiting the Lincoln Memorial at night with a beautiful view of the reflecting pond, Washington’s monument, and the Capitol building across the National Mall.

Cooler weather remains this week with chance of thunderstorms
It was an interesting Easter Weekend across Minnesota as we had a snowy day for all of the travelers. There were reports of some accidents across the state due to the snow-covered roadways.

Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home operates on old-fashioned values, with new technology
Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home owners Kevin and Judy TeBeest both grew up in Montevideo, purchasing the funeral home in Montevideo in 2012. The history of the funeral home began in 1908, when the Anderson Funeral Home was first established in South Dakota by brothers John and Joseph Anderson. The brothers moved to Montevideo in 1912, along with their business. When Kevin and Judy purchased the business in 2012, the name was changed to Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home.

Minnesota West offers two new classes this fall
With the rising demand for healthcare workers throughout the nation, Minnesota West Community & Technical College has been collaborating with our local healthcare partners to expand some of our Allied Health programs to the Granite Falls campus to meet those needs.
