County board accepts budget for LEC roof
The Lyon County Board on Tuesday took action on a number of projects across the county to improve different areas at its regular meeting. After a presentation by Brian Murrell from The Garland Company and discussion by the board, commissioners voted to accept the budget presented by Murrell and move forward with The Garland Company on a roof replacement at the Law Enforcement Center.

National Weather Service looking for area volunteers
National Weather Service How heavy was the rain overnight? How much snow fell during the winter storm? How bad is the drought this year? The National Weather Service is looking for additional volunteers to record and share measurements of precipitation. The addition of even a few observers across the area will lead to a more accurate picture of the weather’s impact.

The Cottonwood Area Community Foundation announces $5,000 in Grants have been awarded to five different area non-profit organizations
Cottonwood Area Community Foundation The first round of grants supported the following community organizations: *Cottonwood Food Pantry – purchase an on-site freezer plus additional food and nonfood items to provide for increased clientele; $1,500.00 *City of Cottonwood – to help upgrade the waste receptacles in downtown area; $1,500.00 *Lakeview School Physical Education Department – purchase a set of snowshoes for junior and senior high students, plus can be checked out by community members; $1,000.00 *Lakeview School Lego Robotics – purchase a set of legos for worldwide competition involving 5th through 8th graders; $500.00 *Lakeview School FCCLA Chapter/FCS Education (a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education in Grades 7-12) – purchase chapter fee and supplies for organization that helps students become leaders addressing personal, family, work and societal issues; $500.00 About the Cottonwood Area Community Foundation: The Cottonwood Area Community Foundation is a donor-driven community foundation whose purpose is to, through an endowment fund, provide a perpetual and growing source of funds to support the Cottonwood community helping to make it a more attractive place to live, work and/or start a business. Lakeview Knowledge Bowl travels to regional tournament
The Lakeview 1 team placed 3rd at the Sub-region meet at SMSU on Monday. They will complete Thursday in the regional competition at SMSU for a chance to go to State. Lakeview also had another team qualify for the regional meet, Michael Sieling, Cole Remiger, Lane Arends, Caitlynn Hedman. Lil’ Thrifty Babes offers affordable, gently used baby clothes
Settling into her new role as a stay-at-home mother, Anaïs Johnson, of Clarkfield, started brainstorming ideas for something to do that would be a unique home-based business. What she came up with, a couple of months ago, was a homebased re-sale site that operates on Instagram in which parents looking to find trendy, affordable, gently used baby clothes could purchase them easily from the comfort of their home.
Echo Charter School Board drops mask mandates
At its regular monthly meeting March 10, the ECHO Charter School Board made the decision to advance learning into the future. The first was to come alongside with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and approved an amendment to the Safe Learning Plan to suspend mask-wearing in classes.

Fine Arts Celebration begins at SMSU
Southern Minnesota State University The Southwest Minnesota State Fine Arts Celebration returns to an in-person format in 2022, and will run from March 22nd through May 3rd. “Two years ago we had to cancel the event due to COVID-19, and last year the events that were held were done virtually,” said Dr.
