Time to buy new hunting, fishing licenses

It’s the time of year when anglers and hunters need to buy new fishing and hunting licenses. Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 2021 expire Monday, Feb. 28. Licenses for 2022 are now available wherever fishing and hunting licenses are sold, online (mndnr.gov/BuyALicense) and by telephone at 888-665-4236. Mobile buyers receive a text or email that serves as proof of a valid fish or game license to state conservation officers.

Kicmal to Step Down as United Way CEO

United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) announces that CEO, Sarah Kicmal, is leaving her role at the beginning of April to accept a position with December Day Creative. The UWSWMN Board of Directors will open a search for a new CEO in the near future. “We cannot thank Sarah enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm and motivation she has given United Way of Southwest Minnesota and our communities over the past several years” said Terry Kriz, UWSWMN board chair. “She will be greatly missed by the staff, Board, donors, volunteers and community partners. We look forward to following the success of her career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of United Way of Southwest Minnesota as we continue to unite people and resources to improve lives and strengthen communities in southwest Minnesota. Our Board of Directors holds great confidence that UWSWMN is served by dedicated staff and supported by generous donors, strong partners, and able volunteers both now and into the future.” Kriz and Rachel Nuese, UWSWMN board vice chair, will lead the Transition and Search Committee for Kicmal’s successor.

Jeff Nuese earns CPCU designation

Jeff Nuese has been awarded the professional insurance designation, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He successfully completed courses and examinations on risk management principles, insurance policy contracts and coverage analysis. Lakeview Board discusses new advisory council, approves personnel changes

At the Lakeview School Boar's Valentine's Day meeting, Superintendent Chris Fenske reported that the Board held a discussion on the American Indian Parent Advisory Council, which is now required for Lakeview because it has more than ten students who are American Indian. The Board later approved a resolution regarding its formation for the 2022-23 school years. "The goal would be for the council to meet around four times per school year," Fenske said. "There is no additional funding that comes to the district for the designation, but eh committee works as an advisory committee for the district curriculum committee and provides suggestions about educational programs and activities for American Indian students."
