February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. During the month of February, teens, community members, and advocacy groups among others, raise awareness about the issue of teen dating violence. This campaign is headed by Love is Respect. Love is Respect is an initiative that engages, educates, and empowers young people to prevent and end abusive relationships. This is a safe, inclusive space where teens and young adults can access information and get support in an environment designed specifically for them. Love is Respect has a theme each year for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). The theme for 2022 is “Talk About It!” The goal of this is to theme is to emphasize the fact that everyone has their own valuable and unique story. Collective experiences and shared understandings can allow for better understanding and communication between teens and adults.
Buysse named to Minnesota DNR Wildlife Oversight Committee
The group of Minnesota citizens that monitors fish and wildlife spending by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is in place for 2022. DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen appointed 15 new members and reappointed four people to the oversight committees that are responsible for reviewing the DNR’s annual game and fish fund report in detail and, following discussions with agency leaders and others, preparing legislative reports on their findings.

Equipment Grants available for access to healthy foods
Funding for equipment that increases availability and access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to underserved communities is now available. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Good Food Access Program (GFAP) Equipment and Physical Improvement Grants.

Breakaway roping clinics at Lee-Mar offer opportunity to learn skills in popular sport
MRA Breakaway roping champion Katie Bell returned to Lee-Mar Ranch to offer a roping clinic recently. Bell hosted clinics last year at the Ranch and assisted Tony Gable with roping clinics the year prior. Bell has two more clinics scheduled at Lee-Mar in the coming weeks. “We’ll have one on the 26th and another on the 27th and then after that, she’ll be on the rodeo trail so we get to follow her and see what she’s doing,” says Lee-Mar Ranch Manager Vicki Patterson.

Second-grade students present inventions at annual Invention Fair
Second Grade students at Lakeview recently hosted their annual Invention Fair. The activity is done as a part of their science unit on understanding the properties of materials and understanding how things around them are used to benefit people. The opportunity allows them to work on problem-solving and analyzing skills as well.
