NorthStar Mutual celebrates retirements
Kratz honored on retirement from North Star Karen Kratz of Cold Spring recently retired from North Star Mutual Insurance Company. At her retirement, she held the position of Agency/Support Services Technician for the Agency/Support Services department. Dr. Timothy Mok named Chief Medical Officer for Avera Marshall region
Timothy Mok, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Avera Marshall region. He began serving in this parttime role on Feb. 1, while also continuing to provide Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine services. He will spend an average of one day per week on CMO duties with the rest of his time dedicated to patient care.

Avera invests in United Way of Southwest Minnesota
Employees from Avera working in Granite Falls, Marshall and Tyler held their workplace campaign to benefit United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN). Employees contributed $9,120 through payroll pledges, donations and special events. Avera made an additional investment of $5,411 for a total campaign of $14,531.

Lakeview superintendent reports iPad funding approved for K-2
Supt. Chris Fenske provided the Lakeview School Board with an update on student enrollment through the month of December at the January 10 board meeting. The enrollment stands at 635 students. Of those 635 students, the 140 in grades K-2 will be receiving their technology soon.

Art display in Granite Falls features works by Krystl Louwagie
On Friday, February 4th, Marshall artist Krystl Louwagie is hosting an Interactive Art Opening at Bluenose Gopher Public House. The event kicks off a gallery display of her works that will be in Bluenose Gopher throughout the month and will feature the opportunity to create art, purchase art, and enjoy snacks and beverages. Following the event will be an Open Mic Night featuring Betsy Pardick at 7 p.m.

Buildings mitigated for hazardous materials, no projects yet
These five main street buildings have been purchased by the Cottonwood EDA, have been mitigated of hazardous materials, and are going to be demolished (hopefully in 2022) said Teather Bliss, Cottonwood City Administrator. It is slowly moving along. There is not a strip mall being built, and there is not a developer set for these lots, yet. Bliss said she has worked on historical roster projects and with the state of these buildings, they are financially and structurally too far gone to renovate. Bliss added that they will all be made site ready for purchase and businesses to be built, there are a few possibilities that she is working with but nothing solid enough yet with which to go public. The next meeting of the Cottonwood EDA will be February 1st, at 5:30 p.m. in the city office.
