The number of small game hunters in Minnesota in 2023 increased slightly from 2022 and was 5% below the 10-year average.
Statewide pheasant numbers similar to 2023
Pheasant numbers in the 2024 Minnesota August Roadside Survey were similar to 2023 and 19% above the 10-year average, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.“The stability in pheasant numbers across the state and most regions is welcome news after the wet spring and summer we had,” said Steven Woodley, DNR senior wildlife research biologist.

Lyon County board OKs 3-year deals for law enforcement services in Cottonwood
The Lyon County Board on August 20 approved three-year law enforcement service contracts for Balaton, Cottonwood, Ghent and Russell.Each contract carries increases over the next three years of 3%, 3.15% and 3.25%.The Balaton extension is for a 30 hours per week at annual rates of $78,984 for 2025, $81,475.20 for 2026 and $84,110.40 for 2027.
