Warning sirens coming to Twin Lakes, Garvin parks
The Lyon County Board on July 2 granted a request from Sheriff Eric Wallen to spend $51,653 to install 130-decibel, outdoor warning sirens in Twin Lakes Park and Garvin Park, neither of which currently have any severe weather warning devices.“There are no means for notification if we have a tornado or other emergency where the sirens would be utilized to notify people of something,” Wallen told the board. While many people today can get weather alerts and notifications on the cellular phones, the signal at Garvin Park — specifically in the lower campground — is unreliable, Wallen said.“Our deputies do try to get to these campgrounds when severe weather is approaching, but that’s very difficult for us to do,” said Wallen.
