Josh Long Gets First Feature Win At Fiesta City Speedway
A total of eighty-one cars were in the pits at Fiesta City Speedway as the season starts to wind down.

48th annual Old SOD Day takes place September 13th
On Saturday, September 13th, Belview celebrates the 48th annual Old SOD Day. The events begin with the opening of the craft and vendor fair on Main Street at 10 a.m. The fair remains open until 4 p.m. that day. Those interested in being a vendor can contact Erin Senger at 507-430-6271. The annual Show and Shine Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be demonstrations on the Depot Museum grounds from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.The Zoo Man will do three shows throughout the day at 11 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in Memorial Park.

Active weather pattern through the weekend
We started off the week with more smoke from Canada. We had yet another period of smoky conditions as we experienced much of the region dealing with an Air Quality Alert. I saw that if the Air Quality index is 150, it is “comparable to smoking up to seven cigarette a day!” No wonder it can have such an impact for those with lung disease and heart issues.

Volleyball team starts practice with a little fun
To make Volleyball practices more fun, Lakeview players have been dressing up in pajamas.

SquidFest returns for fifth year in new location
The festival based on the lore of the legendary river squid, Todd, that was rumored to surface in town returns this year to a new location. SquidFest 2025 will be held at Memorial Park in honor of the park’s 100th birthday, as a one-day, all-ages celebration of creativity and community on Saturday, August 16th.
Farmers Gather in Madison to Discuss ‘Bringing Small Grains Back to Minnesota’
“Welcome to my midlife crisis,” joked Peter Haugen on a Saturday morning in early August as a couple dozen farmers stood in a semi-circle around him and his wife, Brittany, at the edge of a 12-acre field south of Madison. The “crisis” Peter was referring to was what was growing in that field: emmer wheat, an ancient variety of grain sought after by specialty bakers. Over the hill was a 15-acre stand of einkorn wheat and down the road was a bright yellow stand of oats. Surrounding all these fields were crops more typically found in this part of the Midwest: corn and soybeans.
Archery in the Parks at Lac qui Parle State Park
Archery in the Parks is hands-on instruction shooting a bow and arrow from certified instructors in a safe and supportive environment. Aim for a family adventure with kid-friendly equipment designed for beginners aged 8 and older. Children age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is provided. Personal archery equipment is not allowed. This program is run as a stop by, first come first served program.
