Live Well, Age Wisely: Becoming a Dementia Friend

The last week in July is the Minnesota Community Action Partnership’s state conference. This year it’s a short drive down the road to Willmar and I’m looking forward to networking with colleagues from around the state, learning from different speakers, and just the change of pace. I’ve been preparing to co-present two sessions, one of which is Developing a Dementia-Friendly Workplace. It is based on the Dementia Friends information session and the purpose is to create communities where people with dementia are understood and supported.

It always strikes me as odd how you can raise three children in one house and end up with such entirely different personalities. My oldest is a “look before you leap” kind of guy, and while he has a lot of goals, they usually start out with a decision to do something, followed immediately by doing everything he can to just get it done, and get it done quickly. He’s always plowing headlong into the next thing and the next, and I always wonder at how he seems to never take the time to appreciate where he’s at along the way.
